Computer Science Principles introduces computer systems and their expanding role in our world, in your futures. CSP investigates the impact computers have had, are having and will have on society. Computers are not just for mathematicians, scientists and engineers. They are part of almost all jobs and professions. Computers are vital tools for solving problems in medicine or banking or entertainment or pollution control. CSP introduces students to underlying technologies, to logical thinking, to problem analysis and problem solving. CSP opens doors. I encourage you to enter!!!

Computer Science covers a wide range of topics and ideas. Computers are tools that we can use to solve problems. These problems may be in almost every aspects of our lives.

Ability to solve problems is the number one skill employers and investors are seeking (see https://lafollette.wisc.edu/images/NACE_top_10_and_competencies_2020.pdf ). We will spend our time together not just studying computers or computer programming, but at problem solving. We will strive to solve problems and seek to appreciate how computers help in problem solving. Perhaps you will create new uses for computers and you will use them to solve some of our problems. Let the journey begin!

NOTE: This is an introduction to computer science. HOWEVER, it is an introduction at the AP level. We will cover a lot of topics and move at a brisk pace. There are no Computer Science prerequisites. HOWEVER, you are expected to have had basic Algebra and Geometry. Please contact me if you have NOT had the equivalent of Math I & II. As we look at computers, their social impact, careers and our plans for the future you will be expected to participate in group discussions, you will have some (short) writing assignments and your contributions are expected to be at an AP level. Please contact me if you having questions regarding writing multi-paragraph essays.
