Welcome to Music Composition! This is a project based class focusing on using D.A.W's (Digital Audio Workstations) and different digital technologies for creating music.

Students who regularly come to class and attempt all assignments as well as seek assistance when facing difficulties will pass.

Quarter : Advanced Music Production Techniques
Week 1-2: MIDI and Virtual Instruments
- Understanding MIDI and its uses
- Exploring virtual instruments (e.g., synthesizers, drum machines)
- Creating MIDI tracks and sequencing
Week 3-4: Mixing Techniques
- EQ, compression, and other mixing tools
- Balancing elements in a mix
- Creating a professional-sounding mix
Week 5-6: Mastering Techniques
- Understanding mastering concepts
- Mastering plugins and processes
- Preparing a track for distribution
Week 7-8: Music Production Software Deep Dive
- Advanced features and techniques in the chosen DAW
- Automation, effects chains, and other production tools
- Creating more complex arrangements
Week 9: Major Project: Creating a 5-Song Album on Bandlab
- Students work individually or in groups to create a 5-song album
- Utilize all skills learned throughout the semester
- Share and critique albums with the class
- Original motifs vocals and songform
- MIDI Interface
Additional Activities:
- Guest lectures from industry professionals
- Listening sessions to analyze different music genres and production styles
- Field trips to recording studios or music venues
- Collaborative projects with other classes (e.g., art, songwriting)
