Course Description

This course will introduce students to realistic business and finance principles by examining fundamental economic concepts, the business environment, and primary business activities. Students will explore business ethics, customer relations, economics, financial analysis, human resources management, information management, marketing, operations, and business technology through workplace scenarios and problem-based learning.

PowerSchool will be updated on Wednesdays and at the teacher's discretion.  This course has a State Post Assessment at the end of the semester.  It will count for 20% of your grade.  You cannot be exempt from this State assessment.

Participation

Part of your success is determined by your attitude and the degree of effort and involvement you put toward learning and completing assignments in class.  

Workplace Reminders and Expectations

  • Exemplify mutual respect for yourself, others, and DPS property.
  • Be where you are supposed to be, doing what you are supposed to be doing, when you are supposed to be, and with the appropriate materials.
  • Always do your best.
  • Follow all classroom and school rules.
  • Cell phones and other electronic devices must be turned off or on silent and put away during instructional time unless authorized otherwise by the teacher.
  • Be open to others' opinions; be positive.

Daily Routines

  1. Arrive to work (class) on time. 
  2. Open all platforms necessary for work, such as Canvas, PowerSchool, etc.)
  3. Read any announcements.
  4. Complete daily Knight Charges and exit tickets as assigned.
  5. Make sure you are up to date on all tasks.  If not, utilize any free time to catch up.
  6. Understand that we will uphold the 'no leaving class in the first and last 15 minutes of the class period' school rule.

Absences

Attendance is crucial to your success in this course.   Making up the work that you missed is your responsibility.  Assignments and notes can be found in Canvas.  Please see me to schedule a time for make-up tests. Late work will be assessed 5 points per day (including weekends) unless you provide documentation of an excused absence (Ex. parent note, medical, court, etc.).

Tardy Policy

You are late if you are not in the classroom before the tardy bell rings. If you are in the hall when the tardy bell rings, you are tardy, and you must sign in when entering class. Once attendance is taken, it will not be changed without proper documentation.

Bathroom Policy 

Please try to meet this need before class. There will be no restroom usage during the first or last 15 minutes of the class period or when the teacher is giving instruction. Once that time passes, you may use the restroom only in our designated class location (Located outside the classroom on Integrity Hall). Please limit bathroom usage to emergencies only.

Cell Phones/Ear Bugs/Headsets/Other electronic devices

Cell phones, headphones, and other personal devices must be on silent or turned off and put away during instruction unless approved otherwise by the teacher.  DO NOT UNPLUG THE CLASSROOM DESKTOP PCs, and DO NOT PLUG PERSONAL DEVICES INTO THE DESKTOP PCs.  If you need to charge your cell phone, you must do so in the designated area in front of the classroom. Failure to follow classroom rules may result in further disciplinary action. 

Food and Drinks

Food and drinks other than water are not permitted in the classroom.  Please put them away before entering the classroom.  Water bottles must have a screw top. 

Integrity

Copying someone else’s work is not the path to success.  All work that you do for this class is expected to be your own, and academic dishonesty (including, but not limited to, plagiarism on papers and cheating on tests/exams) will not be tolerated. 

You are expected to follow all policies and rules outlined in the
