SONGWRITING

Instructor - Bellino Evans M.Ed

Welcome to  SONGWRITING.  This is a project based class focusing on expanding our use of  language to intimately interact with our global community emotionally, logically, through pain, celebrations, spiritually, and through our passions and drives to succeed. We will examine commercial songwriting techniques as well as literary expression for growth linguistically.

4th Quarter COURSE SCHEDULE

  • 1. Genre and sub-genre expanded.

    2. Motifs and melodies applied.

    3. Music, Sound, Notes and Tones applied in compositions.

    4. Blue print for creating professional commercial compositions without reading music.

    5. Intellectual property law.

    6. Presenting your work for professional presentation and consideration.

  • SONGFORM - Professional structuring of music D.A.W, Digital, Analog Workstation: e.g. Bandlab, Garageband or Audacity, Soundtrap, FL Studious, and others. 
    • Bandlab will be used for class instruction and tutorials. The principals can be applied to any other production device.
    • Vocabulary will be essential to follow assignments
    • We will complete teacher lead class demos in phases. Each new phase will orient you to a new skill allowing you to independently create.
    • We will focus on editing, motifs, song and audio production.
    • We will study intellectual law as it applies to our work.
    • We will study how to present our work for professional consideration.

   3rd Quarter The Business of Music

  1. Black History Month (Motown, Sugar Hill Records, Soul Train, The Apollo, Def Jam, Hip Hop Entrepreneurship, Blues, Gospel) 
  2. Creating Music & Audio products
  3. Music Theory, and Production
  4. Beatmaking vs Song Development
  5. Publishing, Copyright, Sampling, Fair Use, Lawyers Contracts
  6. Marketing, Radio Play, Commercials Ads, and Merchandise
  7. Skill Preparation and Habits of Mind 
  8. Music Careers Non performing and performing (What skills do you need and how and where to obtain them

GRADES: Grades will drop 10 points a day for late assignments. 33% of the grade is attendance and participation which is assessed by the students willingness to learn and follow demonstrated procedures.

Students who regularly come to class and attempt all assignments as well as seek assistance when facing difficulties will pass.
