Sight Reading Unit 1: Learning Goals-3

Unit Introduction

This unit will cover the fundamental aspects of rhythmic and tonal sight reading, and allow students to speak and sing their first rhythms and sing their first solfege syllables.

Essential Questions

During this unit students will be able to answer:

      • How do we feel the pulse and it's subdivisions in pieces of music at various tempos? 
      • How do we speak quarter note and eighth note rhythm syllables at an even tempo? 
      • How do we speak quarter rest rhythm syllables at an even tempo? 
      • How do we sing "sol" and "mi" solfege syllables at even tempo with quarter note, eighth note, and quarter rest rhythms? 

Learning Goals

After completion of this unit, students will be able to:

      • Keep a consistent pulse at an even tempo
      • Speak and sing quarter note, quarter rest, and two eighth note rhythms at an even tempo
      • Sing the solfege syllables sol and mi on the rhythms above
