Time Signature

This next symbol, the time signature, will be the next major symbol you see on the staff. As the picture above tells you, the purpose of the time signature is to tell you how many beats belong in a measure and what note value gets one beat. For right now we will focus on the top number which tells how many beats belong in a measure.
