Vocabulary

Term Student Friendly Definition
Violence Using physical force to hurt someone or to cause damage.
Bullying Seeking to harm, intimidate or coerce (someone perceived as weak or vulnerable)
hazing An initiation process involving harassment, the practice of playing unpleasant tricks on someone or forcing someone to do unpleasant things.
dating violence A pattern of assaultive and controlling behaviors that one person uses against another in order to gain or maintain power and control in the relationship.
Sexual Assault The act in which a person intentionally sexually touches another person without that person's consent, or coerces or physically forces a person to engage in a sexual act against their will.
Family Violence Any act committed by one family or household member against another family/household member that  is: intended to cause physical harm; bodily injury.
Verbal Abuse The act of directing negative statements toward someone, causing emotional harm.
Sex Trafficking The acquisition and sale of human beings for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation, sexual slavery, or forced labor for other people of the trafficker.
